raw gemstone rings

We’ve all heard the phrase “diamonds are a girl’s best friend.” This is actually a song from the movie Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, a 1953 film starring Marilyn Monroe. Jewelry’s beauty has been inspiring and hypnotizing people for thousands of years, so it’s no surprise that so many movies revolve around its desirability, from raw gemstone rings to diamond necklaces.

Here are some of the most iconic jewelry movies to check out if you can’t get enough bling.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961)
Tiffany’s is an iconic jewelry brand with one of the most famous jewelry stores in the world. Its location in New York has become a destination, whether you’re a window shopper or a collector. Audrey Hepburn steps out of a taxi at Fifth Avenue in New York and stares into the windows of Tiffany & Co. — it’s a scene nobody can ever forget. Hepburn in her black dress has become known throughout the world.

To promote the movie, however, Hepburn wore a Tiffany Diamond. The yellow diamond has only been worn by three women: Hepburn, Sheldon Whitehouse in 1957, and Lady Gaga at the 2019 Oscars. The special diamond weighed 128.54 carrots once cut.

The Pink Panther (1963)
The Pink Panther is a nickname for a diamond that belonged to an Indian princess named Dala in this iconic film. She received this diamond — the latest in the world — as a gift from her father. It got the nickname Pink Panther due to a defect; when you look at the bottom of the stone you can see a tiny pink spot similar in shape to a panther. This one-of-a-kind stone catches the eye of famed jewel thief Sir Charles Lytton.

This is a campy series that’s not the most respected in the film world. But if you want to see some wacky antics and corny humor all while seeing a stunning diamond, this is definitely one to check out.

Uncut Gems (2019)
This frenzied, anxiety-ridden film by the Safdie siblings stars Adam Sandler as a jeweler in the famed Jewelry District in New York City. The gem in question is a black opal, an extremely rare and valuable gemstone that Sandler’s character is desperate to get his hands on. The movie is very tense with loud arguments and poor decisions that will leave you on the edge of your seat yelling at the characters. It shows the complete madness that comes when you get your hands on such a rare gemstone.

Suspicion (1941)
This Alfred Hitchcock thriller stars Joan Fontaine and Cary Grant. One of the most memorable scenes is when Joan wears a brooch by Verdura that has gold, diamonds, and pink topaz. Fulco di Verdura created the brooch in 1939, inspired by the Roman god Mercury. The film is in black and white, which is a bit unfortunate when you learn that the brooch features intricate gold wings and pink topaz. It still manages to be a stand-out moment for jewelry lovers all over the world.

Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953)
While Marilyn Monroe’s tight, bright pink dress in this film stole the show, Marilyn sports stunning diamonds on her wrist and neck while singing “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend.” This song has inspired many songs to come, including “Material Girls” by Madonna. It’s also been used in multiple advertisements and campaigns, making it the 12th-most influential song from a film of all time, according to the American Film Institute.

Ocean’s 8 (2018)
This action movie is all about a necklace heist. Criminals put together a tricky team to steal a necklace at the Met Gala. While the crazy action is enough to make this film entertaining, the story behind the jewelry is also quite fascinating.

The Met Gala jewelry featured in the film was all designed by Cartier. The Jeanne Toussaint, worn by Anne Hathaway in the movie, is the most expensive of them all. It was designed by Jacques Cartier in 1931 and originally had a 136.25 carat diamond. This diamond has since been sold, but the necklace was recreated by pouring over photographs. The size of the necklace, however, was reduced to fit Hathaway’s neck since the original necklace was actually meant for a man!

Lord of the Rings (2001)
Here’s one you may have not expected! This movie, based on a book series, centers around a powerful ring that everyone wants to get their hands on. Everyone remembers Gollum growing obsessed with the ring the longer he has it on him. With beautiful engravings and immense power, this ring is one-of-a-kind. You probably won’t find it at any jewelry store, but Ice Imports has a collection of raw gemstone rings that will provide you with courage, confidence, and strength.
